Arrest Following Showcase Cinema Shooting
A man has been taken into custody following a shooting incident at a cinema where staff members were reportedly threatened with a firearm. Unleashing chaos, a gunman in Liverpool was at large overnight, prompting a frenzied police search operation aimed at his capture. Thankfully, the trio of incidents that unfolded during the night, involving reports of gunshots at a newsagent, a cinema, and a residential building, resulted in no injuries. A man is believed to have walked into a local newsagent at around 8 p.m., brandishing a large firearm and threatening the shop clerk, before fleeing the scene without taking anything.
A shocking video from the newsagent’s shop captured a man wielding a large gun, seemingly clad in flip-flops, walking into the store. The shop assistant, though unharmed, was left “extremely distressed” by the incident, according to police. After subsequent reports of gunfire outside the Showcase Cinema in Croxteth, police initiated a lockdown as they searched for the man, believed to be the one who fled the scene. Then, in the early hours of the morning, at around 5 a.m., a 49-year-old man was arrested following a third shooting incident at approximately 10.20 p.m. He became aggressive, leading to police using a Taser to subdue him.
Gunshots were reported outside the Showcase Cinema in Croxteth, causing movie-goers and staff members to face a lockdown instead of enjoying the latest blockbuster film. The Merseyside Police described the incident as “shocking and distressing,” and asserted that those most affected included everyone present at the cinema, the shop assistant who was confronted by the alleged gunman, and the residents of Malpas Road. They added, “Officers were on the scene immediately following the first incident and were able to respond quickly to the subsequent discharges, leading to a man being identified, located, and arrested on suspicion of all three discharges.”
